my lost phone

i blogged months ago that i lost my phone. yeah... lost it, darn.

i have always had a problem with the battery life of my o2. kaya i always bring then the charger. and everywhere i go, i always make it a point to look for an outlet, kasi i really have to charge the phone or else, in an hour, i'll be disconnected from the mobile world.

at megamall's bowling alley, where my current BA team decided to have our team building activity, we were located at about 4 lanes away from the exit door. i saw an outlet under a set of chairs behind the alley. i did not have any insinuation or worry that i might lost it kasi the outlet is kinda hidden. that was i thought. and i was checking it like every 5 seconds. really.

we were all 'bano' on bowling. when there was this time that someone got to hit a strike, we were jumping for joy. i remember before jumping with them in joy (hehe) i checked the phone. after 5 seconds, looked back at it, its gone! i asked the others baka pinag titripan lang ako. wala. actually they didn't know that i was charging the phone there.

but apparently, what they did notice is there was this binatilyo hanging around our area. and true enough, it was captured in one of our pics, he was there. siguro, he saw me going back and forth to the phone, kaya when he finally got the chance.... wahhh! ayun.

he got the phone, the charger and the headset. kumpleto. mabilis siya. and magaling. kasi one would have a hard time reaching under the chair to get the phone, include pa the charger. it was arms length underneath. oh well.

back then, i was cool. yung mga kasama ko pa ang nagwoworry. ang sa akin, nangyari na. wala na kong magagawa. i just called jason, using my other phone, to call my provider and have my line cut off temporarily.

i didn't mind (still don't) losing the phone, really. kasi nga, i was having battery life problems na. never mind din my list of contacts, as i thought, i can still retrieve them from the laptop.

what peeved me was losing all my data. i wish he would return the memory card. or atleast let me back it up first. aquim's milestones were there. dates when he had his tooth. dates when he bumped his head (several times). observations when he got sick. history of the first few weeks of his existence like the times he was fed, how much, description of his pupu. really. it was ALL there.

what worries me lang the most is i've saved important information about myself on the memcard. i'm a potential identity theft victim. you see, i used to work in a bank and it's required to submit this complete info of an employee to the BSP. literally, if someone in the know gets to see and really inspect the data in my memory card, tsk. i'm doomed.

it's been 3 months since and i don't have any problem naman like someone posing as me (knock on wood). or receiving huge debt notice, something like that. i'm hoping he disposed off my memcard na. or sana he just deleted everything on it para ibenta na lang uli.

so right now, im stuck with my old nokia 6610. and i never had my list of contacts back. cause the laptop that i used to synchronized it with has to be reformatted.

that's another story.

baket kaya sila ganon?

i am in the series of asking questions, so please bear with me...

the other night, i was leafing through the latest preview magazine and i chanced upon this ad for the new samsung phone (forgot what model). i'm not particulary interested with the phone, but what made me notice it was one of its features, it says that it runs in Windows Mobile 6.1 professional.

my atom exec runs in windows mobile 5.0 ( i think), the then-latest version of windows mobile, so i was quite surprise to know that there is already a new version.

so i then switched to microsoft site, to learn more about the new version and to see if i can upgrade to it. but when i logged on the microsoft mobile site, there is still no link for an upgrade. still the old links i see everytime i visit the site. so i think, why not visit the 02 site to see if they have something to offer about this.

lo and behold, when i tune in to their site, this is what is saw. apparently, my atom exec is now one of their DISCONTINUED PRODUCTS. what the f...

okay, fine. no problem if they will no longer offer atom exec. i don't mind. but what's the catch? verbatim: Discontinued products have limited support. Please note that repair is subject to availability of parts. No swaps.

EH SINO BA ME SABING I-DISCONTINUE NILA YUNG PRODUCT!!!! BAKET BA SILA GAGAWA-GAWA NG PRODUCT, IBEBENTA NILA TAPOS IDIDISCONTINUE NILA TAPOS LALAGYAN LAGYAN NILA NG LIMITED SUPPORT???? PANO NAMAN KAMING MGA NAUTO NILANG BUMILI NG LETSENG PHONE NA TO!!!! PANO KUNG MAGKAPROBLEMA KAMI, KANYA KANYA NA LANG KAMI NG PUNTA SA GREENHILLS???!!!!

hayy.. nakakainis talaga.. grrrrr.... although i am still quite satisfied with my phone, and so far, after 18 months of using it, i still haven't encountered any problem with it, save for its battery life, nakakainis lang na ganon ang post-sales services nila...

what does a poor consumer do after learning this, wala. e di hope and pray that the atom exec won't fail me. that it won't break up on me. not until i'm satisfied with its service. this phone should serve me up to the last cent that i paid for it. huh! this phone could have bought me one designer bag huh!

now i'm thinking if i should have bought HP or palm. hmm.. i don't have plans of buying another phone or pdaphone per se. wala pang budget.

so ano na ngayon, atom EX-ec na ang phone ko? or atom EK-EK?

windows vista

we don't have dsl or any kind of internet connection in our home. to keep me connected to the cyberworld, i've been using my xda to browse the net everytime i like to. but the charges are too steep so i tried not to do it as often as i want to. hence the reason of not being around for quite sometime.

since my provider launched this time-based browsing as opposed to per KB browsing, it has given me longer time in surfing, checking mails, blogging, etc.

now that it's cheaper (20pesos an hour), and i can browse all i want, i've decided to use my xda as modem and connect it to our desktop. it would be easier to navigate in a regular desktop than using the xda. by the way, our desktop is running in winXP.

and because i want more mobility, i decided to hooked up the xda to the laptop. that way, i can blog right beside aquim while he is asleep. you see, the desktop is in the living room, so if aquim is sleeping in the bedroom, i have to be inside the room also.

i didn't encounter any problem with the desktop running in XP, but since the laptop is in vista, i am quite not familiar with it. i found some forums explaining how to do it, but i still can't connect.

i've downloaded the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) - the active sync equivalent for vista) and installed it. while i can now sync my xda to the vista, still can't connect to the net.

i can't use the desktop now since its not booting up. i don't know, someone must have put a hex on our devices, they aren't coperating with me.

right now, im using good old xda. thank God.

is there anyone who can help me? do i need a driver? laptop is in windows vista home basic, and i'll be using O2 XDA atom exec as modem..

please..please Ü
